Ahrweiler

Historical metropolis of red wine

Ahrweiler – also called the metropolis of red wine – has a particular charm. Many of the buildings are original and give the town a medieval atmosphere. The little town is surrounded by the medieval town walls, which are still entirely preserved. Nowadays you will find butchers and bakeries as well as boutiques and wine taverns in the half-timbered houses. This is history that started with the ancient Romans and is still alive today. The Romans left better traces in Ahrweiler than in many other places. One of the best-preserved Roman sites north of the Alps is preserved in the amazing „Römervilla“ Museum. This is the history of a town worth seeing and a story worth telling!

This is done for example in the beautiful Museum „Weißer Turm“ and in the AhrWeinForum. In the latter you will get information on the early beginning of wine growing and the daily life of winemakers. So where can you find this Forum? On top of the historical building of the winegrowers’ cooperative of Ahrweiler!
